The Chinese New Year is here again, this time celebrating the Year of the Pig. 

This is a Medium Impact event.

The Chinese New Year officially begins on the 5 February, for a two week long celebration to make the new Luna Year. The London celebrations will take place over one weekend. Find out more about the celebrations here.

Community festival in the Chinatown area only with local road closures between 11:30am – 6:00pm.

Sunday 10 February 2019
Main celebrations for Chinese New Year at the following locations:
Trafalgar Square – food stalls on Pall Mall East, sponsor and craft stalls on the north terrace. Greater London Authority (GLA) area includes food stalls on West and East side of Trafalgar Square, with screens and a main performance stage.
Leicester Square – zodiac display, children’s activities, trading stalls on north Terrace. Small performance stage in the gardens.
Chinatown – lion dances and a small number of stalls on Gerrard Place. Volunteer tent and photo exhibition located in Newport Place. Promotional stalls located in Gerrard Place.
Charing Cross Road – trading stalls and a small performance stage at Irving Street.
Shaftesbury Avenue – small performance stage on Dean Street, parade float displays, trading stalls.

Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue, Dean Street, Chinatown, Gerrard Place Charing Cross Road, Trafalgar Square, Pall Mall East.

Saturday 9 February 2019
6am – Road closure of Duncannon Street and Dean Street
7am – Pall Mall East road closure
9am Main event road closures
10am – Trading stalls start in Leicester Square, Chinatown, Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road

Sunday 10 February 2019
10:15am – Parade starts at Duncannon Street and travels up Charing Cross Road to Shaftesbury Avenue and disperses in Rupert Street. (Approx. 1 hour)
11am – Trading stalls start Trafalgar Square
12pm – Stage content and event activities start – all stages
5pm – Stages content finishes for Leicester Square, Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue
5:30pm – Trading stalls finish trading
6pm – Stage content and event activities finish Trafalgar Square
8pm – Roads re-open
