The 38th Virgin Money London Marathon is one of the world’s leading marathons and generates significant public interest with an estimated 650,000 watching the event on the streets and millions following on television, radio and online.

This is a High Impact event.

The 26.2 mile route begins in Greenwich, running through Lewisham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, City of London, Westminster, and finishing on the Mall in St James’s Park. There are approximately 41,000 runners.

The event is owned and managed by London Marathon Events Ltd. Last year’s event raised a record-breaking £61.5 million for charity, bringing the overall sum raised since the event was founded in 1981 to £890million.

6:00am – Road closures in Westminster implemented
6:00am – Waterloo Bridge closed
6:30am – Westminster Bridge closed
8:55am – First wave of runners start
10:00am – Mass participant runners wave start
7/8pm – Phased re-opening of roads.
