Open Britain, the European Movement and Britain for Europe will march and rally to demonstrate the extent of public support for a public vote on the terms of Brexit. Large numbers are expected and are estimated between 150,000 – 200,000 (A similar event in October 2018 had 110,000 present).
This is a high impact event.
A truck-mounted stage will be located on the south side of Parliament Square Gardens to facilitate the Rally, with additional mobile screens being placed on Whitehall and on Cockspur Street.
Whilst the advertised step off time is 13:00, organisers will be ready to step off early by 12:10 should the number of people arriving be such that more space in the form up area is required. Closures will be ready to be implemented from 11:00 to ensure all traffic is drained from the roads. All road closures will be managed by the MPS. Select Security will be providing 150 stewards to assist with crowd flow at stations and on the route.
Key timings include:
9am: Parliament Square – start of stage build
11am: Park Lane – Piccadilly St James’s St – road closure implemented
12pm: Park Lane (Southbound) – public form-up
12:10 – 1pm: March sets off
2:30pm: Head of march reaches the square
2:45pm: Guest speakers and video content on the stage
5pm: Event finishes
7pm: Site clear
Form up: Park Lane (North and Southbound) and Piccadilly route: St James’s St > Pall Mall > Cockspur St > Whitehall > Parliament Square.
There will be people attending from across the UK, with approximately 200 coaches pre-booked and have been directed to out of central London coach parks.
