Heart of London Business Alliance brought together a panel of experts to discuss the future of sustainability, share insights and provide thought-leadership on this subject and how our West End businesses can better protect the environment for future generations.

Hazel Southam, International development and environmental journalist and commentator
Hazel Southam is an award-winning journalist reporting on international development and the environment. Having spent a decade writing for The Daily and Sunday Telegraph her reporting assignments have taken her to places including Bosnia, Zimbabwe, Mongolia and the Arctic Circle.
The Rt Hon. The Lord Hayward, OBE
One of the Conservative party’s most respected experts Lord Hayward is vocal on issues pertaining to sustainability and the environment. Spearheading the campaign against the use of plastic wrapping for supermarket fruit and vegetables he has appeared as a commentator on Sky News and other media channels after bringing the issue to Parliament last year.
Martin Wright, Environmental solutions and sustainable futures commentator
A regular on the TED talks circuit, the BBC and Sky, Martin is one of Britain’s most acclaimed futurist and commentators on environmental solutions. He has also written for a wide range of publications including The Guardian, The Financial Times, The New Scientist and the Huffington Post.
An advisor for organisations including Unilever, Marks & Spencer, Shell, Sainsbury’s and BT Martin’s TED talk on ‘The New Environmentalism’ topped the bill at the 2014 TEDx in London.
Jane Wakiwaka, Sustainability Manager, The Crown Estate
Jane joined The Crown Estate in 2014 as the Sustainability Manager. Jane is responsible for developing and integrating the sustainability strategy within The Crown Estate’s real estate assets, which include the Central London portfolio, comprising the freehold of Regent Street, and 50% of St James’s. This includes ensuring that all new developments integrate and achieve high levels of sustainability, in addition buildings in operation, and customer engagement. She is involved and engaged across different industry bodies including the UKGBC (as one of the Future Leaders), and chairs the European Benchmark Committee for GRESB (the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark).
