Last week, Ros Morgan and Simon Thomas, Chief Executive of the Hippodrome Casino met with the Minister for Transport, Lord Ahmad, to discuss pedicabs regulation. A positive discussion was held with the Minister who fully supports regulation of pedicabs and understands the negative impact they are having on businesses in the West End. He spoke about the many letters he has received from Heart of London members and repeated the Government’s promise to legislate on pedicabs as soon as possible.
Our aim now it to secure an amendment to the Vehicle Technology and Aviation Bill (which has replaced the Modern Transport Bill), and Victoria Borwick MP kindly raised the issue of pedicabs with the Secretary of State for Transport in Parliament on 6 March, saying “They are not of course licensed, regulated or insured, and they cause tremendous grief in central London in that they are not seen as safe.”
We need to keep up the momentum. A draft letter is available on our website which you can download, personalise and send to the Secretary of State to let him know how you and your business is affected by pedicabs and ask the Government to include regulation in law.
