Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus has been awarded Purple Flag status.
This is the third full accreditation for Leicester Square and, for the first time, Piccadilly Circus was also included as part of the Purple Flag footprint. Purple Flag is a town and city centre award for the evening and night time economy that offers a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture, while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.
Rico Pieri, who leads on the Night Time for Heart of London says: “We will continue to champion a strategy to enhance the management of the night time economy along with our partners, including Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor’s Night Time Commission to reinforce the West End as being great a place to visit after dark, and building on the opportunities offered by the Night Tube.”
Our evening economy is of the utmost importance to ensure our member businesses flourish after hours in safety and Mayor of London’s Night Czar, Amy Lamé’s recent visit to the area confirmed our thriving 24-hour economy. Amy was impressed by the 24-hour services on offer, the knowledge-sharing between local organisations and the financial benefit of our area’s offering.
